New Walking Dead video shows Negan still has his code of honor

While fans were mourning the death of Carl Grimes on the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead, AMC released a new Walking Dead video clip showing Negan continuing to rule of The Saviors with his own sense of morality and justice.

The Walking Dead mid-season finale showed Negan about to strike hard against Rick and Alexandria, but Carl stopped that with his reveal that he was dying, bitten by a zombie. Negan, who likes Carl, was taken aback and it allowed Rick and company to regroup and hit back — allowing them to escape.

However, while Negan was nowhere to be seen on The Walking Dead mid-season premiere, he was still hard at work, as the following clip shows.

This clip is from the upcoming episode, “The Lost and the Plunderers,” and shows Negan still trying to keep his chief lieutenant Simon in line.

Negan is a complicated character. While fans of The Walking Dead TV show have not gotten enough examples to really understand him, Negan is what Rick is becoming. If Rick doesn’t change, Negan is the sort of character that Rick will become if he continues to kill without remorse, as Carl tried to tell his dad at the end of “Honor.”

For Negan, he still has his sense of honor. In the clip, he tells Simon to go to The Scavengers and make them understand that no one double-crosses (triple-crosses?) the Saviors. When Simon makes it clear he wants to annihilate them, even though it eliminates ammo, Negan tells his lieutenant what he needs to do.

Negan tells Simon that he is to make an example and take out one person — as is The Saviors policy. He tells Simon to choke back whatever is building up inside him and understand that they cannot waste resources  — and The Scavengers are resources.

The Walking Dead needs more scenes like this. This shows that Negan is evil, and he does kill people without remorse, but he is not someone who would massacre an entire community — unless they started it during the All-Out War that is.
