Michelle and Barack Obama negotiating with Netflix for a production deal
In case you haven’t noticed, Netflix has truly become a big deal.
The online streaming service has managed to entice several popular TV fixtures to sign on recently including the likes of Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, plus a string of popular comedians and filmmakers. Now it looks like Netflix is going even bigger by working on a production deal with the former POTUS.
While the deal is still not final, the New York Times reports that the Obamas are in the final stages of negotiation. If they do strike a deal, Michelle and Barack Obama will provide exclusive content for Netflix.
The type of content that the Obamas are expected to bring to the streaming service hasn’t been announced yet in terms of the number of series’ or episodes. However, it has been reported that they won’t be using this platform to respond to President Trump or the current political climate in the United States.

Instead, Michelle and Barack Obama have reportedly discussed working on a series that focuses on inspirational stories. They also could put together a series or even just a documentary-style program where Obama could discuss issues that he faced in the White House.
“President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, said Thursday. “Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”
A deal between Netflix and the Obamas would be huge for the streaming service. Although the move might seem controversial in the United States, Michelle and Barack Obama are still very well-liked and respected internationally. Having them join forces with Netflix would be a huge boost for the streaming service overseas.

It’s not clear how much Netflix might be willing to pay for an exclusive deal with the Obamas. It won’t come cheap, though. With rumors that Apple and Amazon have also tried to engage with Barack Obama and make a deal, there’s a lot of competition for the former president to sign with a streaming service and provide them with exclusive content.
