FX’s The Americans prepares for its dramatic final season

The wait is finally over! The Americans have released a full trailer for its dramatic, spy thriller drama following the lives of two Russian spies, Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) living in 1980s America. If the trailer is any indication for the final season, things are about to get really, really complicated for the Jennings’ family.

It doesn’t seem like their lives will end on a “happily ever after” note especially with the looming threat of a Russian spy looking to switch loyalties to the American side.

Last season introduced and brought the Jennings’ daughter, Paige (Holly Taylor) into her parents’ secret lives as spies. In the newest trailer, Elizabeth tells Paige that she has to “make a decision to commit to this life or get out.”

Will the final season show Paige embrace life as a spy or will circumstances steer the entire family away from it? As Paige is seen grappling with this heavy decision, the trailer shows the FBI is inching closer to discovering the Russian operatives in their midst.

The series has tiptoed around revealing the Jennings’ true identity to their neighbor, FBI Agent Stan (Noah Emmerich). In the final season, we can expect that he will learn that Elizabeth and Philip are the operatives he’s been after this whole time. This revelation would most likely play a huge part in the final season and its plot.

The trailer along with previous teasers also hint at Elizabeth’s frustration with this life and the desire to leave it all behind. Could the final season close the Russian spy chapter in their lives? We have no idea, but we cannot wait to find out!

The Americans sixth season premieres on Wednesday, March 28th on FX at 10 PM EST
