The women finally have to deal with some serious consequences in “Borderline,” that exclude minor kidnapping.

Forced to balance their criminal lives with their regular ones, things get a bit hectic. Three episodes in and Good Girls already feels confident juggling its multiple stories.

After being approached last week, Beth needs to inform the girls that they have to do one more job. Thankfully it’s not another robbery but just some old-fashioned smuggling. Goaded into stealing one of her husband’s cars, the three grab their passports and head to Canada. Annie remains convinced they’re carrying drugs but it turns out to just be wrapping paper. Despite a tense investigation at the border, they make it back unscathed. However, the girls quickly realize the “paper” is actually counterfeit bills.

Spending the time committing a crime distracts all three women from the responsibilities in their lives. Annie has a home visit for her custody meeting and the incessant Boomer. The latter poses less of a risk and more of an annoyance at this point.

The home visit is a different ball game, with Sadie trying to get the house in order. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse when the social worker realizes she’s been left alone all day. There’s nothing more heartbreaking than Sadie sadly asking why her mom would blow off a meeting to keep her. She’s just a kid and as much as Annie loves her, it’s hard not to want a better life for the young girl.

Ruby’s home life is still the most stable out of all the women throughout “Borderline.” There’s an overbearing church-goer who’s interested in her husband but that’s the worst of her problems. After some reflection and a heart-to-heart with Stan, she realizes it’s time to accept everyone’s help. Yes, Sheila might have a thing for Stan but their relationship is strong enough to handle it.

Meanwhile, Beth looks like she’s on her way to a good old-fashioned love triangle. “Borderline” doubles down on Dean’s desire to reunite with his wife. His regret seems genuine, but as the root of their financial troubles, Beth isn’t willing to forgive so quickly.

Based on a few of the lingering shots between her and Rio, things might be getting complicated. She ends up returning to the warehouse later in the episode where she leaves a pearl necklace as a calling card. He quickly shows up at her house and the two seem to start the negotiation of a new business partnership.

Good Girls isn’t interested in letting the women off the hook easily. “Borderline” keeps Boomer around as a reminder that their troubles have only just begun. For now, he’s quiet, but he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to blow.

Next week, he takes his first steps towards giving them up and the girls might need to find a permanent solution to silence him.
