Sean Bean reveals his true Game of Thrones legacy

Fans of Game of Thrones know that there is no character — no matter how important — that is above getting their head lopped off.

When the series started way back in 2011, no one other than fans of the George R.R. Martin books knew that anyone and everyone could and would die. That made the character’s death in the ninth episode of the series, “Baelor,” such a shock.

Sean Bean starred as Eddard “Ned” Stark — the lord of Winterfell. He is, as Bean himself describes in a Huffington Post interview, “one of the very few good men with principles and morals and values in the whole thing.” That made his death so shocking to fans of Game of Thrones.

More from Game of Thrones

Ned Stark was the main character and Sean Bean was the top-lining star of Game of Thrones. With that said, when Ned “confessed” to treason to save his family and accept exile only to have Joffrey order his head chopped from his shoulders, it was a moment fans will never forget.

With that said, something else from Sean Bean stuck with the show all these years. In an interview with Build Series, Bean said that when they started to do the read-through of the pilot, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said that he should keep his own accent for the character.

Bean laughed when remembering this because he said that it meant that all the other actors had to use the same accent as him, so his accent was how every character had to talk for the next seven seasons.

Producer Nina Gold also said that Sean Bean was instrumental in the future of the show because the rest of the cast had to tailor their performances to be similar to him so that his family would stand out on the show. This includes Catelyn, Robb, Jon Snow, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon.
