Monty Python catalogue coming to Netflix
Netflix is adding a huge amount of Monty Python’s comedy catalogue to their streaming service later this year.
Slash Film reports that the material will be available in the UK and Canada on April 15, with availability in the US being scheduled for a later unknown date.
The (mostly) British comedy troupe – whose members include John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, and Graham Chapman – produced classic comedy sketches, movies, and live specials from the years 1969 to the present.

They are most well known for their sketch comedy show Monty Python’s Flying Circus (1969) and their films Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Monty Python’s The Life of Brian (1979), and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983).
Monty Python hasn’t consistently worked together since 1983 — not including various Terry Gilliam projects and other films in which some of the members often appeared.
Netflix will include the filmed version of the reunion show the remaining members produced in 2014: Monty Python Live (mostly): One Down, Five to Go. Michael Palin says that it was the last time they will perform together as Monty Python.
“The general feeling was that we’d rather have the rest of our life doing what we all wanted to do and not spend the years ahead touring Python,” he said.

And in light of their advanced age and Terry Jones’s failing health, it does seem unlikely that there will be another chance for the five of them ever to perform together again.
But in the meantime, there will be plenty of their work to watch and re-watch on Netflix.
