The What We Do In The Shadows reboot has finally landed a series order at FX after the pilot was developed earlier this year.

Based on the critically acclaimed mockumentary horror film from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, FX initially had only given the series a pilot order. According to Deadline, the network opted to officially pick up What We Do In The Shadows for a full season following the success of the pilot.

The 2014 New Zealand film was written, directed and starred both Waititi and Clement. Thankfully, both of them will return as executive producers for the half-hour comedy with Clement slated to write and Waititi to direct. Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, and Scott Rudin are also expected to join the ranks as executive producers.

More from FX

What We Do In The Shadows follows three roommates in New York City who also happen to be vampires. Needless to say, being around the same people for hundreds of years is bound to bring up some problems. Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd), Natasia Demetriou (Badults), and Harvey Guillen (The Internship) have all signed onto to star in the pilot.

Novak will be playing the head of the house, Nandor, a role which was initially taken on by Waititi. It’s unclear if the name change will be the only difference for the character, who was extremely uptight in the film. Berry appears to be playing an entirely original vampire named Lazlo, who is described as goofy and a prankster. Finally, Demetriou will be the kickass Nadja, and Guillen is presumably an assistant to Novak’s character.

However, the biggest draw for the series is securing Waititi’s involvement with the adaptation. Coming off Thor: Ragnorak, arguably one of the best Marvel movies created, he’s become one of the most in-demand directors. It’s incredibly smart of FX to have him continue with What We Do In The Shadows and to continue their partnership with Clement.

Nick Grad, President of Original Programming for FX, only had positive things to share about their latest project.

"“What We Do in the Shadows only gets better with age thanks to this brilliant adaptation for television by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Their feature version was a hilarious, fresh take on the mundanity of everyday life that even immortals must face. We are thankful to them, Paul Simms and Scott Rudin, and this amazing cast for taking us deeper into the shadows with this series.”"

Undoubtedly, this adaptation will be one of the most anticipated shows of 2019. The half-hour comedy is expected to air sometime next spring with all ten episodes already commissioned. In the meantime, fans can also expect Waititi and Clement to continue working on their werewolf sequel of What We Do In The Shadows. Also, be sure to check out Clement in his other FX series, Legion.
