Lucifer is saved by Netflix after passionate fan campaign
Netflix has swooped in and saved the day for Lucifer fans!
After a passionate fan campaign across social media, the streaming service has officially stepped in to renew Lucifer. The DC Comics series has established a loyal cult following over its past three seasons on FOX. Deadline reports the show will be considered a Netflix original starting with season four.
#SaveLucifer took the internet by storm following the news of its cancellation by FOX. Unlike other campaigns, Lucifer fans managed to keep the energy high as they fought for a renewal. This led to conversations by both Netflix and Amazon to try to keep the series alive.

Interestingly enough, Lucifer is the second canceled FOX show to find a new home this season. The network also gave beloved comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine the ax before NBC immediately saved it. Both shows were always considered on-the-bubble due to ratings but had massive online audiences. It certainly begs the question whether FOX should be paying more attention to their streaming views compared to Nielsen ratings.
Series lead, Tom Ellis, took to Twitter to share his excitement with fans. He wasn’t alone, as many members of the cast shared their joy via retweets and gifs.
Lucifer ended season three on a cliffhanger, and Netflix now gives the show an opportunity at a proper conclusion. However, based on the passion seen throughout the #SaveLucifer campaign, it’s clear fans will fight to keep it going for many more seasons.

Of course, now that season four is officially greenlit the planning stages begin. Cast members will undoubtedly need to renegotiate contracts and sets will have to be designed. Much like Supergirl‘s move from CBS to the CW, there will probably be some changes to expect. Yet, this move to Netflix will also free up the ability for the series to explore some darker themes they couldn’t on FOX.

The two FOX series were the ones highly anticipated to get noticed by other networks. Nevertheless, this renewal comes as a joyous surprise to the fans who made it happen. Now, Timeless fans will probably resume their campaign with just as much gusto to get the attention of NBC.
