Good news Earpers, Wynonna Earp will be back for another season!

Coming on the heels of its third season premiere, Wynonna Earp was renewed by Syfy for a fourth season. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the news was announced during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

While the cult hit has never been a ratings juggernaut like The Walking Dead, it does have a devoted fan following. This has resulted in the show’s strong presence on social media.

The show’s passionate fanbase and its strong female characters have led to comparisons with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, although fans would likely agree that Wynonna Earp is very much its own thing.

The fourth season of the Canadian series, which is based on Beau Smith’s IDW comic book, will consist of 10 new episodes that will premiere in 2019. The show will continue to focus on the adventures of Melanie Scrofano’s title character, the great-granddaughter of Wyatt Earp, as she and her ragtag team fight revenants and other supernatural beings in the town of Purgatory.

The show was created by Emily Andras, who also serves as showrunner. Of the renewal news, Andras said:

"We are absolutely delighted that Wynonna Earp has been renewed for a fourth season. We are so grateful to Syfy for their relentless and ferocious support of the series and the Earper fandom."

Given Wynonna Earp‘s fervent fans, presence at big events like Comic-Con, and accessibility of past seasons on Netflix, the audience for the series is likely to continue to grow. As a result, Syfy’s move to renew the show before the entirety of the third season has aired and to announce the news at the show’s Comic-Con panel where some of its most devoted fans have gathered makes sense.
