Star Trek: Discovery announces Ethan Peck cast as the actor to play Spock in season two.

After months of speculation surrounding the cliffhanger ending of season one, in which the Discovery responds to a distress call put out by the USS Enterprise, showrunner Alex Kurtzman has announced that Ethan Peck has been cast as the iconic Mr. Spock in the upcoming season two of Star Trek: Discovery. This officially puts an end to the speculation surrounding both whether or not Spock would appear as a character and of who would play him if he did.

While Peck is a relatively unknown actor, you may have seen him in Gossip Girl and Madam Secretary,  as well as That ‘70s Show, The Drew Carey Show, and 10 Thing I Hate About You the series. Classic Hollywood fans can probably guess his silver screen lineage, as Ethan Gregory Peck shares more than just a passing resemblance to his grandfather Gregory Peck. Peck will be the third actor to play an adult Spock, following the legendary Leonard Nimoy and the inspired Zachary Quinto.

In making the announcement, Kurtzman had enthusiastic things to say about Peck and the struggle of finding an actor who would do justice to the character that Nimoy and Quinto so iconically brought to life.

"“We searched for months for an actor who would…bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would…effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”"

Next. Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard in new Star Trek series. dark

It is unknown in what episode Peck will make his debut as Spock and in how many episodes he may appear, but as the early 2019 premiere date draws closer we can at least take comfort that the legacy of Mr. Spock will live on in new and exciting stories.
