The timing couldn’t be more perfect in the #MeToo climate. According to Deadline, A Teacher explores the “consent, abuse of power, victimhood, and the inevitable consequences that occur throughout a community” after the affair becomes public.
The film version received all sorts of buzz when it appeared at Sundance when Fidell received “Best of Next!” nomination.
After the success of the film, HBO planned to work on a TV series adaption of A Teacher, but no actors were ever attached. Then, Fidell decided to take the series to FX. In addition to starring as Diana Watts, she will also serve as an executive producer.
Mara is no stranger to popular T.V. shows. She previously starred as Zoe Barnes on House of Cards and most recently as Patty Bowes on FX’s Pose. She will also star in, and executive produce an adaption of the book 10 Days in a Mad-House by Nellie Bly.
Fidell submitted another film to Sundance this year called The Long Dumb Road. It stars Mantzoukas (Transparent) and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and will be released in November.
