Jack Ryan actor John Krasinski explains the type of hero he is
By Shawn Lealos
Jack Ryan premiered today on Amazon Prime Video with John Krasinski starring as the analyst.
Krasinski is the fifth man to portray the Tom Clancy character following Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears), and Chris Pine (AJack Ryan: Shadow Recruit).
Looking at those names, it is easy to see the different faces of Jack Ryan. Baldwin was a diplomat in a movie where Sean Connery’s Russian defector was the main star.
Harrison Ford was the older Jack Ryan — a man who became president in the Tom Clancy novels. Ben Affleck was an action hero and Chris Pine was the young lion.

So, what is John Krasinski in the new Jack Ryan Amazon Prime series?
He sure isn’t the Ben Affleck action hero, or at least that is what Krasinski said attracted him to this role (via an interview with Cinema Blend).
"“I think that there’s an everyman quality to Jack that certainly my character in The Office had, and I think that’s what I connected to.”"
Krasinski also said that he feels comfortable as Jack Ryan, but he never sees himself as playing a hero like Superman.
Fans remember John Krasinski mostly from his role as Jim in The Office. While he has since branched out, specifically with his brilliant directorial debut in the horror movie A Quiet Place, he is still Jim to many fans.
With that said, don’t think that Krasinski didn’t believe he needed to look the part of an action hero in this movie — although an everyman hero (think: Bruce Willis) instead of a chiseled hero like Chris Hemsworth.
The good news for fans of John Krasinski, Tom Clancy and Jack Ryan, Amazon loves what they saw from him as they have already inked the series to return for a second season even before the first one aired.
For those curious, the first season of Jack Ryan is now streaming for Amazon Prime members. Check out the eight-episode first season now or check out our recaps of the episodes to see if this version of the Tom Clancy character is the one you have been waiting for.
