The Crown and Lost in Austen stars to join BBC’s Gold Digger

Alex Jennings is moving on from his royal status to take on a new role in the modern era in Gold Digger.

Several actors are being added to the cast list of BBC’s Gold Digger: Alex Jennings, Jemima Rooper, and Sebastian Armesto.

Gold Digger, which stars Julia Ormond (Legends of the Fall) as Julia Day, a wealthy older woman who falls in love with a 25-year-old, played by Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia). The six-part series will explore this unusual relationship and how it affects the family, who thinks Ben is just a gold digger.

Ormond is no stranger to T.V. She received an Emmy nomination for her guest performance on Mad Men. She most recently appeared in the newest adaption of Howards End, which aired on Starz earlier this year.

Jennings will play Julia’s ex-husband Ted. He most recently appeared in the first two seasons of The Crown as the Duke of Winsor, the disgraced former king of England who abdicated the throne to marry an American divorcée.

Armesto will play Patrick, Julia’s oldest child Patrick. He previously starred in Harlots as Justice Josiah Hunt and Poldark as Tankard. Rooper will play Julia’s middle child, Della. You may have seen her in the mini-series Lost in Austen as Amanda Price.

Archie Renaux will make his acting debut as Leo, Julia’s youngest child. Nikki Amuka-Bird (Hard Sun) plays Marsha and Julia McKenzie (The Casual Vacancy) play’s Hazel.

Filming has already begun on the drama series, which was created and written by Marnie Dickens (Thirteen). The series should air on BBC sometime next year.
