Disenchantment season 1, episode 4 recap: ‘Castle Party Massacre’
By Wade Wainio
In episode 4 of Netflix’s Disenchantment, Princess Bean is tired of suitors being afraid of her dad. So, when the King’s away, Bean will play!
It’s well established that Disenchantment‘s Princess Bean (Abbi Jacobson) is jaded with monarchy life, and wants to be normal. So, when her domineering father, King Zøg (John DiMaggio), drinks bad water and gets carted out of town, it’s a chance for her to cut loose and get into trouble (again).
In the process of throwing a party, she is looking for a suitable suitor, but not just anyone. She thinks the guys in her kingdom of Dreamland are “too plageu-y” — she can’t handle kissing someone whose lips are falling off!

Meanwhile, Elfo (Nat Faxon) has his own problems. He’s tired of being compared to a cute baby and insists he’s a cute man. In a crucial moment, he starts asking Bean out. However, as luck would have it, he’s interrupted when Vikings invade to dance.
Bean takes a liking to a Viking named Sven (Maurice LaMarche), who romantically tells Bean his horse has big, beautiful teeth like hers. Swept up by his charm, she says his tooth is beautiful. too.
However, the jealous Elfo informs him that Bean is actually a princess. She’s not too happy about it, calling Elfo “a little, green Zøg.” However, it turns out that Sven already knew that about Bean, and his intent was a hostile kingdom takeover all along.
Unfortunately, Sven’s dealing with Bean and her professional trickster pals, who convince the Viking to drink from the same tainted water that sickened Zøg.
They call it the elixir if life. Before long, though, Sven is very sick, and the Vikings eventually are tricked into falling through a trap door (presumably to their collective death).
When King Zøg returns, everything appears normal until opens the chimney flue and a bunch of human body parts fall out of the fireplace. Oops!
