Mark Hamill appears in first look image for the second season of History Channel’s crusade epic Knightfall.

Knightfall is a historical drama about the fall, persecution, and eventual execution of the Knights Templar by the order of King Philip IV of France.

It follows disillusioned Templar warrior and leader Landry du Lauzon (Tom Cullen) and his mission to recover the Holy Grail and solve his master’s death.

Mark Hamill will play Talus, a Templar warrior who is responsible for training new members of the Knights. After ten years spent in a prisoner of war camp during the Crusade, Talus is both wise and hardened.

The promotional image indeed shows Hamill as a tough and scarred old man with a long grey beard and an expression of jaded skepticism.

“He takes pride in the scars, because they made him who he is,” said showrunner Aaron Helbing.

Landry, meanwhile, has to start at square one after the events of season one and is somewhat resentful of Talus. “The two of them face off against each other, and it’s pretty brutal,” Helbing said. “The whole season is darker, grittier and more action-heavy.”

Aaron Helbing, former showrunner of CW’s The Flash, took over as showrunner and executive producer for the second season of Knightfall, replacing Dominic Minghella.

This is, perhaps, where Hamill’s involvement came in, considering Hamill had a recurring role on The Flash as James Jesse the Trickster.

Casual fans of Mark Hamill and Star Wars might think that the actor hasn’t had much work in the years proceeding the original trilogy, but Hamill is actually a renowned voice actor — most famous for playing The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and other related titles — and has only recently had a comeback as a live-action star.
