Game of Thrones: Naomi Watts to star in prequel
By Ariba Bhuvad
Stay calm and carry on! Naomi Watts is set to star in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel in a lead role.
Game of Thrones prequel is happening folks, and the casting has officially begun! Earlier today it was announced that after long, tedious negotiations, star Naomi Watts has been cast in a lead role, according to Deadline.
This is quite the exciting news considering fans have been itching for any news related to the prequel series, and it’s all coming together! The series is from Kingsman writer Jane Goldman alongside author George R.R. Martin (of course) as the co-executive producer.
Goldman and Martin are the genius minds behind the prequel which will take place thousands of years before the events of the series we currently watch and love. It will be centered on the era of the Golden Age of Heroes as it descends into the dark times.

Based on the report from Deadline, the secrets of Westeros and how the white walkers came to be will be just the icing on the cake when it comes to what the prequel will hope to explore and will be unexpected and different from what we think we may know.
Who else is freaking out about this? Because honestly, more Game of Thrones is always a great thing and will make the original series ending more bearable. Specific details on Watts’ character and who she will be playing are being kept under wraps but the official description as of now is, “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”
To change it up from the original series who has Jon Snow has the lead role, the Game of Thrones prequel has a female lead along with a female showrunner. Go team GOT! Of course, there will be an ensemble cast with both men and women, but it’s exciting nonetheless.
We will not see any of the characters from the current series in the prequel as the story takes place at least 8,000 years before the current timeline. It all sounds so amazing, and we simply can’t wait to learn more about Watts’ character!
