Anna Paquin joins The Affair for flash-forward storyline in fifth and final season
True Blood’s Anna Paquin has been cast in the final season of The Affair as a character who will be part of a major time jump.
After the shocking events at the end of season 4, the flash-forward will see Paquin as Joanie Lockhart, the adult daughter of Alison and Cole, returning to a climate-change devastated Montauk after several decades.
She will be there to uncover the truth about what really happened to her mother, bringing The Affair back to where it began.
The fifth season will also follow Dominic West’s Noah, Maura Tierney’s Helen, their children, Whitney (Julia Goldani Telles) and Trevor (Jadon Sand), and Sanaa Lathan as Noah’s love interest, Janelle.

They will be seen in a separate plotline that takes place in the months after the violent death of Alison (Ruth Wilson) by her boyfriend.
Joshua Jackson, who was a series regular for the show’s first four seasons, will not return in that capacity. However, his character, Cole, may appear as a guest star in 1-2 episodes.
In addition to several returning guest stars, The Affair will also introduce Claes Bang as a new character — a movie star and potential love interest for Helen.
The fifth season of the show, which was created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, will find the remaining characters coming to terms with the fact that in order to improve their futures they must face the consequences of their past choices.
Filming of the final season has already begun with an eye towards a 2019 premiere date.
Paquin won an Oscar for her work in The Piano, but she is perhaps best known for her roles in the X-Men franchise and as the star of the HBO drama True Blood. She has also appeared on TV series including Alias Grace, Susanna, and Bellevue.
