Disney+: Could Rocket and Groot be coming to the streaming service?

Disney+ might get a new series involving everyone’s favorite Guardians of the Galaxy members — Rocket and Groot.

According to CBR, it’s rumored that Groot and Rocket could be heading to Disney’s streaming service. While Marvel has been silent about the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise future, this does come as good news for fans.

Disney+ does seem committed to expanding on some of the supporting characters’ stories in the Avengers franchise.

If the series does move forward, Disney+ would only need to sign a contract with Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel for voice work. The fact that the two have different physical actors certainly makes scheduling easier.

However, there’s no word on what the new show will actually be about. Many are speculating it could be a prequel following how their partnership came about before they met the other Guardians.

Following the controversy over James Gunn’s firing, it seemed like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 would suffer in development forever. Marvel released the preproduction team which confirmed the movie would at least be a ways off from even shooting.

Since the film still hasn’t found a director, nor has there been any word about the studio interviewing talent, it does seem safe to say it isn’t a top priority for them. Considering the FOX merger will bring Fantastic Four and X-Men back to Disney, the studio will have plenty of new characters to work with.

A Groot and Rocket series will be the fourth Marvel show currently in development for Disney+. The three other confirmed series are miniseries about Loki, Scarlet Witch, and Falcon with Winter Soldier. It would also join the three other announced Star Wars shows for an already impressive roster on the streaming service.

In the meantime, fans will be able to see the other Guardians, as well as Groot and Rocket, return in the Untitled Avengers: Infinity War sequel on May 3, 2019. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the series as the next phase of Marvel gets closer.
