The Shop: HBO orders new series from LeBron James

LeBron James is now in Hollywood! His Uninterrupted company has teamed with HBO in the new fly-on-the-wall docu-series The Shop.

On each episode, LeBron James holds a King’s Court in the barbershop, hosting many types of stars and out-of-this-world personalities to voice their opinions and perspectives.

Athletes are growing their brand and letting their voices be heard. No more are they just millionaires playing a game — not that they ever were. LeBron James is taking the lead with a half hour miniseries of conversations on HBO called The Shop.

The Shop lets LeBron serve as the conductor of the orchestra for the conversations. The Shop has so far proved to be a perfectly styled production with a properly shaped narrative.

It has, so far, lived up to HBO’s pitch of an “unfiltered conversation and debate with some of the biggest names in sport and entertainment.”

Two episodes have already been aired, with a remaining six coming. If the current schedule holds, the series will be spread out through the rest of the NBA season.

The first episode aired Aug. 28, and the second went live on Oct. 12, so there is likely to be a holiday episode in the coming month.

HBO’s The Shop features Lebron and a wide variety of guests, drinking wine and discussing broad issues in multiple barbershops across the country.

Nothing too controversial should come from the show, as HBO wants to protect their brand while also trying to further social conversations and lead civil debates.

The series has already featured Snoop Dogg, Odell Beckham Jr.,  Alvin Kamara, and Draymond Green. Candice Parker and Elena Della Donne also shared some experiences that should gain them a new level of respect from most honest sports fans.

The conversations have gone well beyond just playing ball, and show why “Shut Up and Play Ball” is a terrible response to athletes speaking out or taking a knee. The problems and perspectives have too many layers.

There is every reason to believe that the next six episodes of The Shop will be just as eye-opening as they have been astute conversations. It could be argued with his new options in Hollywood, Lebron has a future as the People’s Voice in sports. He is speaking where Jordan remained silent.

The Shop can be streamed on the HBOGO app.
