The Kingkiller Chronicle: Writing has begun on Showtime drama series
By Ariba Bhuvad
The Kingkiller Chronicle is finally making some progress as Showtime begins writing on the untitled drama series.
The Kingkiller Chronicle is heading to Showtime, and fans will be pleased to know that writing has begun for the series. It has been three years since we first learned about how Patrick Rothfuss’ fantasy series would be adapted into a film series, TV show, and video game. Per TV Guide, there have not been many updates regarding the project but that changes now.
The president of Showtime, Gary Levine, announced this week that they have officially begun writing the script and putting together stories for the beloved fantasy series. Joining the project as an executive producer will be Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda along with The Librarians‘ John Rogers.
Naturally, Miranda’s involvement can only mean that there will be plenty of music in the series. Levine stated that Miranda is very much excited about this aspect of the series and is excited to see it all come together. The series has not been given a name as of yet, however, it will serve as a prequel to the Rothfuss’ novels. It will take place about a generation before the stories from the first The Kingkiller Chronicle book.

The lead characters will be traveling musicians so one can see what Miranda will be spending most of his time on between the films and the Showtime series.
Whispers have been circulating about the identity of the two musicians, and some believe they may be Kvothe’s parents. However, Rothfuss has his own insights to provide regarding the characters that will be seen in the prequel.
"Some of these older characters, we get to meet them. We’ll get to explore parts of the world that we’d never get to see otherwise."
There is no official premiere date as of now since the writing has just begun. But rest assured, we will keep you updated in the coming months!
