Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger: Freeform sets season 2 premiere date

Freeform sets a return date for their hit Marvel series, Cloak & Dagger.

Last year Cloak & Dagger took viewers by surprise with its darker tone compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the hit series resonated with the audience as it tackled many complex issues such as racism, addiction, and sexism. The show ended season 1 on a high note however the network has been relatively quiet about season 2. Thankfully, Deadline reported at the TCA’s that Freeform has officially set a date.

Cloak & Dagger is slated to come back on the air on April 4 with a two-hour premiere to kick things off.

According to Freeform, season 2 will see the two leads, Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) and Tandy (Olivia Holt) begin to take embrace their roles as superheroes. The season 1 finale saw the two switch places from the beginning. Tandy is no longer homeless and on the run after spending a majority of her life afraid of getting close to people. Meanwhile, Tyrone finally got retribution for his brother but now finds himself hiding from the police after being framed for murder.

Not only will the two teenagers begin to develop more as heroes, but they’ll also have larger challenges to face. Cloak & Dagger is expected to dive into serious topics like human trafficking and gang violence in the second season. In fact, Deadline teased the two will have to face off against a “heartless vigilante” and a new threat against young women in New Orleans.

Another question fans will want to be answered in season 2 is the fate of Emma Lahana’s Detective O’Reilly. At the very end of the finale, she can be seen seemingly coming back from the dead. In the comics, O’Reilly is a vigilante named Mayhem who works alongside Cloak & Dagger.

While Marvel has never confirmed or denied the possibility, many Marvel television fans are hoping to see Cloak & Dagger and Runaways crossover. The two teams have met in the comics which could set up a crossover in the series. Marvel also had both casts do promotions together so it’s likely that the studio is aware of how much fans would like to see them team-up onscreen.
