Winter is coming to the season finale of The Walking Dead
By Derek Johns
As the ninth season of The Walking Dead starts to wind down, a recently revealed episode synopsis for the season finale teases an interesting detail or two.
The official synopsis (via Bloody Disgusting) states “In the aftermath of an overwhelming loss, the communities must brave a ferocious blizzard; as one group deals with an enemy from within, another is forced to make a life or death decision.”
Now the “overwhelming loss” could mean anything at this point with the perpetual game of Russian Roulette that goes with being a supporting character on The Walking Dead.
However, it most likely points to the infamous Fair from the comic books and that could mean some massive losses for the communities and some beloved heads sticking out of pikes in the ground.

The more interesting part is the mention of the “ferocious blizzard” indicating that winter is finally coming to The Walking Dead.
In most shows, having an episode taking place in winter would be par for the course but The Walking Dead over the course of nine seasons have avoided that time of the year like the plague.
Given the timing of this episode as well as AMC’s admission of a second The Walking Dead spinoff is currently in active development, it’s possible this episode could be serving another purpose.
One of the possibilities that has been floating around for the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff is one taking place in a colder climate.
Of course given the parent show’s lack of experience in that department, the season 9 finale could serve as something of an informal beta testing to see if the specific idea would be feasible on a week to week basis.
