Universes collide as George Lucas visits the Game of Thrones set.

Even though George Lucas no longer owns or is creatively involved with the Star Wars franchise, when he makes an appearance, it tends to get noticed.  Visiting the normally secretive set of a highly popular cable show like Game of Thrones is certainly no exception.

According to an article published by EW earlier this week, last spring Lucas was seen by several actors touring the set of Game of Thrones in Belfast during the filming of the show’s final season.

During that time he also met and talked with the Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.  Exactly what the three men talked about will have to remain a mystery for now though, since both Benioff and Weiss declined to comment on the visit from Lucas.

Coincidentally, Lucas’ set visit reportedly came just a couple of months before Disney announced that both Benioff and Weiss would be involved in developing a new Star Wars trilogy.  Naturally, there has been rampant speculation among the fan base of what this would-be trilogy would entail, including Benioff and Weiss at one point jokingly implying to be working on an origin story for Captain Phasma that would “blow people away.”  However, there’s been nothing concrete reported so far and in all likelihood, there probably won’t be for some time.

While both Benioff and Weiss refused to confirm or deny Lucas’ visit or comment on what their Star Wars story could be on to EW. However, they did joke about expecting backlash for whatever the storyline is.
