HBO’s Succession teases season 2 in new trailer
By Wade Wainio
After a raucous first season, HBO’s Succession now has a teaser trailer. Are you ready for some corporate cut-throat comedy-drama?
After firmly lambasting corporate America, HBO’s Succession will definitely be coming back in 2019. The question is, what will it look like? Deadline has a new teaser trailer! It seems to suggest the Roy family patriarch, Logan (Brian Cox), will play a more active role as business leader this time around. Also, Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) will likely be more of an outsider, at least at the season’s outset.
More from Show Snob
- The Santa Clauses season 2, episode 6 recap “Wanga Banga Langa!”
- Lawmen: Bass Reeves season 1, episode 7 preview: Non-spoiler thoughts for Part VII
- Goosebumps season 1, episode 6 recap: “Night of the Living Dummy”
- Beacon 23 season 1, episode 3 recap: “Why Can’t We Go on as Three?”
- Upload season 3, episode 2 recap: “Strawberry”
Nevertheless, Kendall is crafty enough to possibly out-maneuver his dad, even though Logan has some devastating means of blackmailing his son. Personally, I suspect the season will be about his rebound, and how he comes to out-dominate his family, even if from the outside. The first season of the comedy-drama suggested that Kendall may be down, but far from out.
Not much is revealed
What’s most interesting is how little the Succession season 2 teaser reveals. Sure, a teaser trailer isn’t supposed to reveal much by it’s very nature. Still, this one really takes that premise to heart! For the most part, it simply reveals that Kendall, Logan, Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Shiv (Sarah Snook) will still be prominent. Also, the clips maintain the snarky attitude prevalent in season 1, suggesting we can expect the same style of humor. This Succession trailer mainly focuses on the contentious relationship between Kendall and Logan, with Roman and Shiv mainly present to insult Ken.
Though details are scarce, one can freely assume that season faves like Marcia (Hiam Abbass), Connor (Alan Ruck) and Gil Eavis (Eric Bogosian) will return. Personally, what I want to see is more of the bizarre frenemy-ship between Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun) and Tom Wamsgans (Matthew Macfadyen). In fact, Greg has enough info on Tom to totally sink him, and possibly end up ruling the Waystar Royco empire. What’s the saying for that? Loose lips sink ships? It’s also just a funny, oddball pairing.
It will also be interesting to see if Roman can begin his quest to become a real boy, as opposed to a sociopath facsimile of a human (albeit a funny one). Of course, all of the Roys have scandals. By the time season 2’s through, they may have more skeleton than closet! So, whatever your reason for returning to Succession, just know that there’s plenty of Ortolan to go around (and, if you don’t get that reference, go ahead and watch season 1 — it’ll be worth it)!
