For those hoping to see a Next Generation reunion on the new Picard centered Star Trek series, word is that none of the original actors have yet been asked to guest star.

According to Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members who appeared at Washington D.C.’s Awesome Con 2019, none of them have been asked to appear on Patrick Stewart’s upcoming Picard based Star Trek series. Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher), Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), Brent Spiner (Data), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher), and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) were all in attendance and confirmed that no one had been approached to reprise their roles, but that everyone was open to the possibility. McFadden said:

"“Of course, I’d love to. But I have not been approached.”"

However, there doesn’t seem to be much for hard feelings in the matter. Jonathan Frakes commented on the series to Deadline.

"“The feeling is we would love to be part of it. But the feeling is also that it’s Patrick’s show.”"

As has been previously revealed, the series will take place in Picard’s later years and will focus on his life post-Starfleet. As one can expect after 20 years away from the screen, Picard will be in a very different part of his life and a very different character. Where his former crewmates fit into that life may very well be complicated, but we can likely expect at least passing mention of those characters. Frakes said to Deadline:

"“I can’t imagine a world where there’s no reference to what happened to the rest of The Next Generation cast.”"

It also turns out that Stewart’s former castmates know about as much about the secretive series as fans do. Sirtis revealed:

"“None of us knows anything. They’re guarding that show like the nuclear codes.”"

Even Jonathan Frakes, who is set to direct episodes three and four of the series, currently is as in the dark as anyone. Or may they’re just playing coy and there are surprises afoot, who knows. All we can do is wait for the series to premiere late this year.
