Fear The Walking Dead season 5, episode 5 recap: The End of Everything

It may have been a slow episode of Fear The Walking Dead, but at least the mystery behind the helicopter people was revealed–sort of.

Fear The Walking Dead often likes to do episodes that focus solely on one character, and while sometimes they do an amazing job, sometimes, like tonight, the episodes get a bit boring. In fact, the only thing that kept me engaged was knowing that whoever took Al was somehow connected to the people that have Rick or will eventually have Rick, depending on what the timeline currently is.

We soon came to learn of the person that was holding Al captive who is a woman named Isabella. She wants a particular tape that Al has in her possession, and the only way Al will give it up is if Isabella tells her story. Oh, classic Al! As the two trekked their way towards something, they began to form a strange bond that I didn’t exactly see coming.

They killed zombies together, climbed up a mountain together, and nearly faced death together. You know, all the ingredients of a fruitful relationship in the zombie apocalypse. What this bond also brought was the ability for both of them to open up about their pasts. Isabella explains why she killed her partner, while Al talks about what happened to her brother when all of this started.

It turns out Isabella had to kill her partner when he tried to go, rogue, because no one could ever know about her group and what they were trying to do. In fact, she would have to kill Al after all was said and done as well. Whatever her group is trying to accomplish is big, and nothing else matters. Cryptic, much?

Isabella reveals that if she can have Al’s tape then it would keep her group on the path they’re working towards. The video could give away their location, and that’s the last thing any of them want. Al finally decides to give her the tape even though it means that she could be killed at the end of it. There’s something about their bond that is so romantic and just as Isabella is meant to kill Al she decides not to. She can’t get herself to and ends up kissing Al instead! Sigh, love is real, even in the apocalypse.

While Isabella reported back to her group, Al got in contact with Morgan and the crew and reunited with them finally. Of course, she’s surprised to see where a bunch of kids popped up from on Fear The Walking Dead, but they’ll get to that at some point. After everything she went through with Isabella, something inside of Al changed, and I’m curious and excited to see where it will lead us!

Fear The Walking Dead airs every Sunday on AMC at 9 PM EST!
