Gossip Girl is getting a reboot on HBO Max and will introduce us to a whole new social media generation of teens.
Yes, you have heard it right. It’s been almost 12 years since the first episode of Gossip Girl aired on The CW and now the series is finally set for a reboot on HBO Max.
Entertainment Weekly broke the news and revealed that the CW mega-hit starring Blake Lively is getting a reboot, with an initial order of 10 episodes, and will stream on the show’s newly announced streaming service.
The series is set eight years after the original show ended and is set to feature a whole new cast. It will tell the story of how much social media has affected the teens, and will also factor modern New York in the show. The original creative duo behind the show, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are set to return as executive producers.

Josh Safran, who was a writer and executive producer on the show will be the showrunner of this new installment.
Gossip Girl premiered on The CW on 2007 and ran for 6 seasons till 2012, the show was based on the book series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar and was a breakout hit for stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, who played Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey and later went on to become Hollywood sensations.
Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass played by Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick also made them favorites among the fans during the show’s entire run. The series follows the story of Blair Waldorf, who is the toast of the adolescent lot at the Upper East Side school and envied by everyone. But soon, her perfect life gets complicated when her ex-best friend enrolls at Blair’s private school and a ruthless and mysterious blogger starts revealing secrets about these privileged teens of Upper East Side New York.
While casting and the release date is still yet unknown, the news comes about a week after Chace Crawford, who played Nate on the show revealed that he can see himself returning for another shortened run in a streaming service. And judging by the show’s mass following, it already looks like a big win for the new streaming giant to be.
