Westworld: Everything you need to know about season 3 from SDCC
Westworld gets a soft reboot in the first full trailer for season 3 coming out in 2020. Some major details for this new installment have been revealed.
Westworld season 3 had one of the most highly anticipated panels at San Diego Comic-Con this year and rightfully so since the show which is getting a soft reboot in its third season not only unveiled the first full trailer but also gave us some of the major information about the upcoming season.
The trailer for season 3 saw Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores out in the real world alongside Tessa Thompson’s Host-Charlotte (the original Charlotte was killed in season 2). We also see Dolores meet Aaron Paul’s Caleb and it looks like she eventually recruited him for her plan.
The trailer also showed us the fan-favorite Maeve (Thandie Newton) in 1940s Nazi Germany. Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) is on the quest to find someone powerful enough to stop Dolores when it comes to it. And we got to see a tormented William (Ed Harris) who we last saw as a host in the post-credits scene of season 2 finale. Luke Hemsworth’s Stubbs is also back in action alongside newcomers Lena Waithe and Vincent Cassel.

The panel for Westworld included stars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright alongside Aaron Paul and showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan.
While Nolan refused to comment much about Ed Harris’ Man in Black during the panel, he did go on to describe the upcoming season as “The New World”.
We also learned that Caleb is a construction worker living in the 2050 – 2060 era. He has a robot pal named George, Paul also teased that his character is not as straight forward as it seems and is very complex.
Nolan refers to the real world in the show as a giant shit show, he tells the audience that the A.I. in the show are more thoughtful than humans and humans tend to have a “Netflix effect”.
Thandie Newton also spoke of the emotional challenges of playing Maeve in season 2 and how her arc of finding the free will and sacrificing it was emotionally draining for her. She talked about the journey of the hosts in the show and how they are finding their humanity while the guests seem to have lost their own.
Aaron Paul was asked about the struggles in his character Caleb’s journey and he told the audience that Caleb was born in a complicated world and his emotional needs are not being met, he is not wealthy and he has a desire for longing more. He was also asked as to why he chose to play this character to which he responded by saying that he likes deep-rooted complicated and conflicted characters and the showrunners gave him exactly that in the form of Caleb.
Towards the end of the panel Wood hinted that Dolores still has growth to do. She has not seen the real world yet, that is to say if she actually has gotten out of the park and is in the real world. She also talked about how Dolores has her own ideas when it comes to the concept of morality.
Westworld Season 3 premieres in 2020 on HBO.
