Details for Starz and Steven Soderbergh’s Docu-Series Leavenworth
Starz has Steve Soderbergh onboard for their new true-crime docuseries Leavenworth. Show Snob provides all the details you need for the new show.
Starz is staking its claim in the streaming world with productions such as: Outlander, Power and American Gods. Now they have famed, multi-talented director, writer, producer, cinematographer and editor Steven Soderbergh attached as executive producer on Leavenworth, a new true-crime show, according to a report from Deadline. Is there anything he doesn’t do?!
This new addition to the network – which is backed by Lionsgate – is an actual story about military justice. Paul Pawlowski and David Check are also involved behind the scenes, with Alice Dickens-Koblin and Susan Lewisare serving for the channel.
And there’s not long to wait, with only a few months until the Oct. 20 premiere. Not to mention the pedigree of recent similar efforts from Starz like: Warriors of Liberty City, as well as Wrong Man. Meaning, this definitely sounds like avid viewing, as you can read for yourself below in the synopsis.

The story
According to Deadline‘s summary, Leavenworth centers around Clint Lorance, a former soldier. He effectively received a life sentence for murder at The United States Penitentiary of the same name. While deployed in Afghanistan in July 2012, the former lieutenant was convicted of the murder of two civilians and had a virtual mutiny on his hands.
We the viewers are given a “first-hand account of a soldier navigating the US Army’s legal system.” We are then taken to a polarising appeal system and emotive debate between adversaries on either side of the equation.
The observers of this challenging documentary are then forced to weigh up the confusion of war, while processing guilt and innocence in the most testing of circumstances.
This program certainly sounds riveting, along with once again proving that an episodical format and an informative nature from those who witnessed the depictions often does more justice to the events than a movie can.
Soderbergh’s catalogue
Soderbergh is acclaimed for some fairly diverse work, including movies: Traffic, Erin Brockovic, the Ocean’s Franchise, Magic Mike and Unsane. His television credits include: Fallen Angels, The Girlfriend Experience also from Starz, Mosaic and again as executive producer on Netflix’s Godless. He has won many awards, such as an Oscar from the Academy for Traffic.
TV line also inform us that: “The premium cabler has ordered to series Dangerous Liaisons, an adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel…”, so there is also that to look forward to.
