Starz chief teases John Wick spinoff series The Continental and Keanu Reeves
The Starz John Wick spinoff series, The Continental, is unlikely to air before the fourth film in May 2021, but Keanu Reeves may still make an appearance.
Starz is developing a John Wick spinoff series called The Continental, which will focus on the inner workings of the eponymous hotel that caters to an international society of assassins.
While Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch refused to elaborate on much about the upcoming series, according to Deadline, he did admit that it is unlikely that the series will air before the fourth film, which is set for May 2021.
“My sense is that where we are today, the movie date has been set but we’re still in early development on the series so [it will air] most likely after,” explained Hirsch.

While a series set in the John Wick universe about the luxurious and dangerous Continental Hotel is more than enough to get me excited, fans are understandably curious about Keanu Reeves, the level of his involvement in the series, and most importantly, whether he will appear as the notorious assassin John Wick. Reeves will serve as executive producer and is rumored to have some screen time, but Hirsch was reluctant to say how much.
“That’s a really good question that I’m not going to answer. No answer is as good a tease you’re going to get,” Hirsch said per the Deadline report – which is a really intriguing answer.
I am also curious about how much we’ll get to see of John Wick in the upcoming series, but I’m not going to hold my breath that he will have any kind of significant role. Since the series is reportedly set at a Los Angeles branch of the Continental hotel, there likely won’t be any significant involvement with the characters from the film’s New York location. Ian McShane, who plays the New York Continental’s manager Winston, has already said he will not be appearing, but unflapable hotel concierge Charon (Lance Reddick) has said he’d love to be involved if scheduling permits.
Many of the creative team from the films will be joining the series as executive producers, alongside series showrunner Chris Collins and John Wick director Chad Stahelski, who will be directing the first episode. The series was picked up back in January 2018 and knowing that makes it feel like this series is developing at an agonizingly slow pace – but that’s probably just the intense anticipation talking. In any case, we’ll likely have seen John Wick 4 long before the show is set to air.
