What an appropriate time for FX to announce season three of their acclaimed show American Crime Story with ‘Impeachment’. Which echoes the contemporary era of Donald Trump.

FX has announced the third installment of its acclaimed true-crime drama series. The title is Impeachment: American Crime Story; with the Clinton administration at the heart. Obviously, Bill’s affair with Monica Lewinsky while President will be the main focus.

Lewinsky is, remarkably, a producer for the show; of course, she can give an actual account of the times and incident. Though she hasn’t produced any television previously, Lewinsky has written for a documentary and has vast experience within media.

Although some may suggest that Lewinsky’s inclusion only lends an impartial viewpoint. Hopefully, balance is thusly supplied in Impeachment: American Crime Story from both camps of advisers, as well as politicians of the period.

Impeachment: American Crime Story

If you’re a fan of critically rated TV, yet have not seen FX’s American Crime Story – you should. Season one, The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson and season two, Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History are both brilliant. I suggest you binge them as soon as possible on Netflix!

Hollywood Reporter gave some details about Impeachment: American Crime Story which features cast members Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp – a civil servant who secretly recorded Lewinsky’s private phone calls. Also, there’s Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky – we all know she had an affair with a married Clinton while he was in office. Then FX cast Annaleigh Shadows as Paula Jones – an accuser of Clinton for sexual harassment.

Details of the upcoming show, announced 18 months after its predecessor ended, are mildly vague currently but still impactful. Clinton’s trial will be recreated, however the limited series:

"“will explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton presidency.”– FX Networks chairman John LandgrafVia: Vulture"

Reminiscent feel in the Trump era

There is a definite deja vu feeling following the news of Impeachment’s impending broadcast; the media has rightly spoken reminiscent rhetoric about Donald Trump possibly facing trial for his many assumed wrongs. Albeit a fanciful seeming notion for some reason.

Those issues surrounding Trump are: racist policies such as “build the wall” on the Mexican border and fraudulently attempting to force Mexico to pay for it. Or the religious discrimination seen against Muslims with regards to a travel ban; not to mention separating many races from their children in deportation clashes.

Then there’s the really significant accusation in Trump’s alleged impeachment list: alleged collusion with Russia whilst the United States of America’s 2016 Presidential Election took place. Public opinion is, and wasn’t, ever completely against either Trump or Clinton. Which is also interesting despite a level of espionage and lying. The 45th Pres is also reputedly a womanizer.

What an appropriate juncture to reignite those moralistic calls from just anti-autocratic protesters. Particularly as the sentiment and incentive for Trump to leave appears mildly diminished or at least a lesser discussed topic these days.

There is a while to wait though, just over a year for the premiere of the show based on based Jeffrey Toobin’s best-seller A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.
