The CBS All Access adaptation of The Stand fleshes out its cast. Plus, Stephen King is writing a new ending that expands on his novel. We’ve got details!

Back in January, CBS announced that they would be adapting Stephen King’s beloved novel The Stand on All Access. Per a report front Deadline, the limited series series will be written by Josh Boone (The New Mutants) and Ben Cavell (Justified). All of the episodes will be directed by Boone.

The story follows survivors in a post apocalyptic world where the population has been decimated by the accidental release of a super-flu.

What has fans buzzing is the extent of Stephen King’s involvement in the project. Deadline also reports that King was never happy with the way The Stand ended. So, he will be writing a new, expanded ending for the series.

All of the major plot points and character arcs will remain basically intact. But the new ending will pick up where the novel concludes. It will not be a quick coda tacked on to the last episode. It will likely take up a large portion of the finale. And, it will be written by King himself.

The cast is starting to take shape, as well. Deadline also reports that James Marsden (Westworld) has closed his deal to star in the series as Stu Redman.

In the novel, Stu is the first person found to have an immunity to the super-flu. He is a wise and damaged man who rises to prominence in the post apocalyptic world. Amber Heard (Aquaman) will star as Nadine Cross. She’s a deeply conflicted woman with allegiances to the novel’s big bad, Randall Flagg.

Odessa Young (Assassination Nation) will portray Nadine Cross, a pregnant woman stuck in a whole new world filled with danger. Henry Zaga (13 Reason Why) will play Nick Andros. He’s a young deaf man who takes big risks to protect others and earns a leadership role in the new world.

The Daily Moth reported that a deaf actor and members of the California Association of the Deaf (CAD) had reached out to Josh Boone to express their disappointment with the casting of a hearing actor to portray a deaf character. Boone apparently responded by saying that the casting was not as simple as hiring a deaf actor. That’s not a good look for Boone.

With the casting news just being announced, it’s likely The Stand won’t premiere on CBS All Access until the second half of 2020 at the earliest. It’ll be interesting to see who fills out the rest of the cast. All eyes will be on the casting news of the Dark Man himself, Randall Flagg.

Are you excited about the CBS All Access limited series of The Stand? Who do you think should play Randall Flagg? Let’s discuss in the comments!
