Disney released the first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian at D23.

When Disney’s new streaming service launches on Nov. 12, it will also mark the release of its highly anticipated series The Mandalorian. From Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King) and Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars), The Mandalorian focuses on the title character, a bounty hunter from the planet Mandalore. Mandalore will be familiar to Star Wars fans as the home planet of another famous bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

The new trailer confirms the gritty tone of the series, which comes across as an action-filled space Western. The trailer includes many Star Wars trappings, including the helmets of Storm Troopers in the sand, someone frozen in carbonite, and the bounty hunting droid IG-11 (who will be voiced by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Watiti, who will also direct an episode of the series).

The Mandalorian never takes off his mask in the trailer and never speaks, maintaining the character’s mystery. Yet his actions establish his talent for his job.

At the end of the clip, Werner Herzog’s unmistakable voice intones, “Bounty hunting is a complicated profession. Don’t you agree?”

The series takes place after the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi, following the death of Darth Vader. It stars Pedro Pascal (Narcos) in the title role. Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte also star.

Disney must have faith in the series because it’s already been renewed for a second season. This is the kind of premium content that will drive fans to add Disney+ as soon is it’s available in November.

Between The Mandalorian, and a plethora of other original TV series and movies that will only be available on the new streamer, the service has the potential to be a massive success. The same could be said of The Mandalorian.
