Michael Shannon joins HBO’s untitled LA Lakers pilot
Prolific actor Michael Shannon has joined the HBO pilot about the Los Angeles Lakers’ 1980s dynasty. Shannon plays former owner Jerry Buss.
Jeff Pearlman’s Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s serves as inspiration for a new HBO pilot, currently untitled, focusing on the incredible team of the era.
With the production company having previously created some excellent sports documentaries, and their obvious mastery at producing the finest television programs, this drama once entitled Showtime should be phenomenally good!
In fact, the show is especially exciting because moviegoers favorite Jason Clarke is already attached to play former Lakers basketball coach Jerry West. Additionally, the prolific, also easily recognizable Michael Shannon is onboard, too.

What is the basis of ‘Showtime’?
So, now you know the cast is very strong and there are only two actors confirmed, let’s get down to the details. We are apparently going to see on and off-court depictions in the show. Private lives and management rooms will all be portrayed.
According to Deadline, Shannon will play the self-made ex-owner Jerry Buss. Whilst the Mud actor has three other films premiering soon. Executive Producer Adam McKay will direct the pilot, which is currently known as ‘The Untitled Showtime Lakers Project’. People are speculating that HBO dropped the name Showtime because media company Showtime is a chief rival of theirs.
