Briarpatch: First trailer for upcoming USA series starring Rosario Dawson drops
USA has released the first trailer for its upcoming crime anthology series Briarpatch starring Rosario Dawson.
Briarpatch is based on the novel of the same name by Ross Thomas. It centers on an investigator named Allegra “Pick” Dill (Rosario Dawson) who returns home to the corrupt town of Saint Disgrace, Texas after her younger sister, a homicide detective, is killed in a car bombing.
The trailer establishes the quirky look and feel of the series. It showcases Allegra’s search for her sister’s killer as she questions the oddball town residents and periodically encounters an escaped zoo animal. The trailer makes it clear that no matter how much the town attempts to thwart her, Allegra is determined to uncover the truth about what happened to her sister.

The series was written by Andy Greenwald, and he will executive produce alongside Mr. Robot‘s Sam Esmail and others.
In addition to Dawson, the show stars Kim Dickens (Fear the Walking Dead), Jay R. Ferguson (Mad Men), Brian Geraghty (Chicago P.D.), and Edi Gathegi (StartUp).
The series is an anthology, so the first season will tell a contained season-long story that is entitled Briarpatch. A new crime story will then be chosen for the series’ next season — assuming the show is renewed.
According to Deadline, Briarpatch will have its world premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival and will hit the small screen sometime in 2020.
It will be good to see Dawson back on television again after the demise of the Marvel-Netflix shows on which Dawson appeared as Claire Temple. It’s also exciting to have another show in the works from Sam Esmail. With Mr. Robot ending this year, there will be an opening for his unique vision on TV next year.
