Orange Is the New Black season 7, episode 7 recap: Me as Well
By Ariba Bhuvad
Piper navigates through her sex life sans Alex in this episode of Orange is the New Black–and it’s not easy.
Orange is the New Black sheds light on something other shows/movies/documentaries often look over–the struggles of life during and after prison. And on that note, it’s become clear that ever since Piper was released from prison, she’s been struggling in the sex department. There aren’t many options that don’t involve cheating so Alex provides her with a little something to hold her over.
Obsessively watching a GIF of Alex, Piper begins to masturbate a lot. So much so that her brother and sister-in-law have to ask her to take it easy. She’s clearly struggling, and it’s only a matter of time before she does something she may regret.
On the other hand, Caputo finds himself in the middle of a #MeToo situation after a female guard accuses him of coming onto her and then firing her when she refused. At first, Caputo isn’t eager to accept blame or any fault. He doesn’t see what he could have done that would have made her feel that way.

You see, this denial is all part of the fact that no one ever called him or other superiors out on their shady behavior. It was always overlooked but with the climate changing, this sort of behavior is no longer tolerated. Sorry Caputo, you messed up really bad. Really bad.
I appreciate that Orange is the New Black brought attention to this matter because it’s something that they’ve discussed in the past. You may or may not remember this but Caputo once all but forced Fig to give him a blowjob way back when. Suffice to say, his reputation isn’t all that squeaky clean and it’s coming back to bite him in the ass.
Despite being told not to, Caputo decides to pay Susan a visit to ask for forgiveness. But there’s one huge mistake he’s making here. He should be saying sorry for what he’s done rather than looking to clear his name. And because of this petty behavior, Susan decides to completely out him by releasing his name.
Back at the ICE detention center, Blanca and Karla are working hard to figure out how they’ll get out of this mess. They had found lawyers that would be willing to work pro-bono but unfortunately, they are prevented from coming. This storyline is incredibly heartbreaking and I’m impressed in the manner in which Orange is the New Black has handled it in their final season.

Speaking of heartbreaking, Taystee is still struggling to find a reason to live. She’s lost all hope so when Susan tries to narrate what actually happened during the riot, it doesn’t make any difference to her. But where all hope is lost, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and that light is Ward.
Before wrapping up this recap I just want to shed some light on Tiffany’s (Pennsatucky) storyline. She decides to take the GED course at Litchfield but quickly learns that she’s dyslexic which is why she’s always struggled. The flashbacks to her past help us understand where she’s from and why she is the way she is. So realizing she has a learning disability coupled with the fact that she had a rough upbringing, helps us really connect with her in a way we haven’t before.
I’m so happy to see how Tiffany is getting the chance she never did before. These plot developments most certainly are the beauty of the final season of Orange is the New Black and I’m here for it.
