Orange Is the New Black season 7, episode 9 recap: The Hidey Hole
By Ariba Bhuvad
Orange is the New Black spends time outside of the prison walls as Cindy acclimates to life outside of Litchfield.
Orange is the New Black doesn’t keep viewers confined within the walls of the prison in the final season. In fact, we spend a lot of time outside of it especially with Piper and now, Cindy officially out of Litchfield. Speaking of which, Cindy is back at home with her mom and daughter (who actually thinks Cindy is her sister) and is doing her best to help out in any way she can.
She even gets a job at an assisted living facility but comes home to find that it’s not exactly the time for celebration. Do you all remember the letter Taystee wrote out of anger to Cindy’s daughter explaining the truth? Well, that letter arrived, and the truth is now out.
And as expected, things blow up resulting in Cindy leaving the house for good and finding shelter on the streets. It’s so heartbreaking and difficult to see this take place because it’s a reminder that life is anything but easy post-prison.

Piper, on the other hand, seems to be finally flourishing. She had a great time at the wilderness retreat, and now she’s letting everyone at work know her truth. She was in prison and now she’s out trying to make a life for herself. I’m happy to report that even Piper’s dad is coming around. But not everything is perfect in Piper’s life, even if she doesn’t know it. Alex is still hooking up with McCullough and it doesn’t show signs of stopping anytime soon.
Pennsatucky is really getting into the groove of school, but after the unfortunate world of drug dealing gets to her GED teacher, things take a horrible turn. But we’ll get to that a bit later.
Lorna has been having quite a difficult time on Orange is the New Black after what we thought was finally going to be a break for her. After finding out her baby died of pneumonia, Lorna refused to accept this as the truth. Instead, she continued to post pictures of random babies on Instagram, pretending it was her baby. What she doesn’t know is that Vinny has been trying to report every account she makes to try and get her to stop.
With Lorna refusing to accept the truth, Vinny suggests they get a divorce. And thus begins a weird series of flashbacks/visions/not sure what that was exactly, but we’ll go with it. Whatever visions she’s experiencing translates into her real life as she goes missing on Litchfield premises.
Uh oh.
