Just over a month out from the season two premiere, YouTube Premium has finally released a full-length trailer for Impulse. Here are our five biggest takeaways. (CW: Sexual assault; Spoilers)

After more than a year-long hiatus, YouTube Premium’s critically-acclaimed drama Impulse is finally returning for its second season next month. Even better, we now have our best preview yet of what’s to come, thanks to the release the official season two trailer. Here are our five biggest takeaways.

1. Cleo is really dead?!

Up until now, Impulse had been keeping Cleo’s fate under wraps. This trailer offers our first look, but, unfortunately, it’s not looking good. One thing we know for sure is that Nikolai did not dissolve Cleo’s body as was hinted at in the final moments of the season one finale.

What we don’t know is if he killed her, or if she’s even dead. The only hint we get of what’s to come is Henry crying and holding Cleo, who is covered in blood, whose eyes are closed and who is not moving, in the backseat of a car.

It’s unclear when in the season this takes place, so Cleo could very well be alive at the beginning of the season, and she may still be alive in this scene. A few seconds later in the trailer, Henry can be seen outside of the car waving for helping with bloody hands, so maybe there’s hope Cleo will survive.

On the other hand, a few seconds after that, Henry is seen driving what is seemingly the same car into a lake and teleporting out, implying she’s trying to cover something up, which may not be a good sign.

Ignoring the trailer for a moment, though, Missi Pyles is still being promoted as a major cast member this season, so let’s keep the faith for now.

2. Nikolai will be teaching Henry to control her powers

Even if Nikolai didn’t kill Cleo, the bounty hunter tasked with tracking down teleporters can hardly be called a good guy. However, he will be trying to help Henry this season, but maybe not for the reasons she thinks.

While his employers have charged him with finding Henry and turning her over so they can experiment on her, Nikolai appears to be teaching Henry how to use her powers, so she can protect herself from them  — to an extent.

Likely unbeknownst to Henry, Nikolai is still in touch with his employers, and he seems to be training Henry, not to ensure that they won’t be able to capture her but rather to ensure that she’ll survive being experimented on, presumably after he hands her over to them.

This does make sense given that Nikolai’s employers supply him with a serum called “factor,” which he seemingly needs to take regularly in order to survive. Will Nikolai ultimately learn to be selfless, though, and put Henry’s needs above his own?

3. Jenna & Townes will continue working to protect and support Henry

Fortunately for Henry, she won’t just have Nikolai helping her. Jenna and Townes will continue to stand by her side, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be some friction. Townes (for good reason!) thinks Henry is putting too much faith in Nikolai, and Henry likely won’t react well to having her judgment questioned.

Jenna, meanwhile, can be seen yelling that Henry knows exactly “what” she is, while Henry warns her to “watch it.” Without context, it’s difficult to say what may be going on, but it’s highly likely that Townes and Jenna are only looking out for Henry’s best interests.

4. Clay is speaking out

It appears Clay will be telling his brother Lucas and Deputy Anna Hulce that it was Henry who crushed the truck and caused him to become paralyzed. The question now is what they will do with that information, aside from telling Henry that they know.

5. Stream it free

If you need to get caught up or want to watch it again, the trailer confirmed that season one is still free to stream. Plus, the trailer teased that season two will be free to stream on its release date, October 16. Whether the paywall will go up on the 17th is unclear.
