YouTube Premium’s complex drama Impulse is coming back for a second season. The show debuted in June to critical acclaim.

Fans of YouTube Red’s hit show Impulse can rest a bit easier now. The compelling drama’s ten-episode run ended on a chilling cliffhanger with the lives of several characters’ hanging in the balance, but those questions won’t be left unanswered.

YouTube confirmed today that the show is returning for a second season. According to Deadline, the ten-episode season will premiere in 2019 with stars Maddie Hassan, Missi Pyle, Sarah Desjardins, Enuka Okuma, and Craig Arnold returning.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the announcement was made at Impulse‘s San Diego Comic Con panel, which took place earlier today. Hassan, Desjardins and Okuma as well as executive producers Doug Liman, Lauren LeFranc, Gene Klein and David Bartis attended. A teaser trailer was also released.

YouTube head of original content Susanne Daniels explained the reasoning behind the renewal decision.

"“This dramatic thriller has all of the right elements — with unexplained events and complex characters who drew us into their mysterious world right from the start,” Daniels said. “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Universal Cable Productions and the talented team at Hypnotic to create another intriguing season.”"

Impulse centers on Henry Coles (Hasson), a strong-willed 16-year-old whose life changes drastically when classmate Lucas Boone (Tanner Stine) sexually assaults her.

In addition to facing the major physical, mental and emotional effects of the trauma, Henry is also left searching for answers about a terrifying new ability triggered by the assault — teleportation.

Pyle plays Henry’s mom Cleo, who struggles to connect with the daughter she believes has always been determined to shut her out. Desjardins stars as Jenna Hope, Henry’s quasi-step sister and close friend. While she and Henry don’t get along initially, the very empathetic Jenna becomes a major support system for Henry after the assault.

Arnold plays Lucas Boone, Clay’s brother, who strives to face his own demons and become a better person but fears he is doomed to remain the violent man he was raised to be. Okuma stars as Deputy Anna Hulce, the small town’s only honest cop who tries to uncover the truth behind the Boone empire’s wholesome facade.

EP LeFranc serves as the series’ showrunner, and EP Liman directed the pilot. Liman was also the director of the 2008 film Jumper, which exists in the same universe as Impulse.
