Six actors have been cast in Paramount Network’s upcoming series 68 Whiskey: three as series regulars and three in recurring roles.

Derek Theler (American Gods), Beth Riesgraf (Leverage), and Lamont Thompson (NCIS: LA) have joined 68 Whiskey as series regulars. The series, an adaptation of the Israeli show Charlie Golf One, has also set Usman Ally (On Becoming a God in Central Florida), Artur Benson (Shooter), and Aaron Glenane (Picnic at Hanging Rock) in recurring roles.

The six newest members of the cast will appear opposite five actors who were previously cast: Sam Keeley, Gage Golightly, Cristina Rodlo, Jeremy Tardy, and Nicholas Coombe. 68 Whiskey is currently in production on its first season and is expected to hit Paramount Network early in 2020.

The series centers on a diverse group of Army medics who, M*A*S*H-style, serve at a forward operating base in Afghanistan dubbed “The Orphanage.” Its a dangerous and surreal setting that results in self-destruction, questionable behavior, deep loyalty, and sometimes even a sense of purpose.

Theler will portray Sasquatch, who works for a privately contracted security company but doesn’t quite live up to his nickname.

Riesgraf will play Major Sonia Holloway, the base’s highest ranking doctor. She is the daughter of a retired general and has her own family in America, but in Afghanistan she maintains an emotionless exterior to hide the turmoil she’s experiencing inside.

Thompson is Colonel Harlan Austin, a stern war hero who is in charge of the lives of everyone on the base. He’s admired and feared but has good intentions.

Ally will appear as Captain Hazara, a kind and empathetic Pakistani doctor with the British Armed Forces. He is the calm in the storm and champions other medics.

Benson will depict Khalil, a young private and medic in the Afghan Army who also works as a translator when needed.

Glenane plays Chef Colin Gale, the rugged cook from the Australian Army who also presides over the base’s illegal boxing matches.

68 Whiskey is being shepherded to the screen by Imagine Television Studios, part of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s production company, and CBS TV Studios. It is being written by Roberto Benabib, co-creator of The Brink, who will also serve as showrunner.

The show certainly looks to be a timely exploration of life on an army base in Afghanistan. If the show brings out the personal trials and tribulations of those that live and work there, 68 Whiskey could make for a potent and unique series.
