We learn that Elise, Bumpy’s grown drug-addicted daughter, has been attempting to get clean. Meanwhile Bumpy tells his guys that something would be wrong if he doesn’t return from his Gomez meeting in 10 minutes. During the apartment rendezvous, Bumpy samples the goods and isn’t very impressed.
Unfortunately for Bumpy – and Gomez, a police informant who they kill – the deal is a sting operation. Though the corrupt detectives plan to frame Bumpy for the deal and for shooting Gomez. Stella Gigante gives Teddy’s recording to a potential record producer to get him signed. He promises to return if it’s safe from her father – she concurs.
Chin is told at confession by his brother, a priest, not to shun his daughter for her relationship with Teddy because he is black; despicably telling him “she will come to her senses”. They plan to meet at their mother’s for dinner. Whilst in custody, Bumpy accuses the bent detectives, through a captain he knows, of setting him up. But the captain is also crooked and attempts to help them to get the charges to stick.
Back at the recovery center, Malcolm assures Elise that she can get herself off drugs because he has faith in her. Frank Costello, Bumpy’s main contact protecting him from the mafia, lets him know that he’ll be in trouble if the mob thinks that he killed Zambrano – a made man. To ensure his release, Bumpy had to bribe a judge. Guapo apprises the latter that there is plenty of confiscated narcotics in the evidence room at the police precinct.
Explaining that it was music that made her have an affair with another race, Stella is then told to go on a date with a fellow Italian. Powell receives a visit from Mayme, Bumpy’s wife, she is a charity fundraiser looking for more funds. But Powell, a politician, notifies her that he has gotten everything he can. Until Mayme reminds him that Bumpy illegally elicited votes for him.
Mayme reveals their ‘daughter’, Margaret, is actually Elise’s child and that they should be kept away from one another, in her opinion. While at his home, Bumpy admits he’s struggling to read the street with the ease that he once used to.
Elise is surprised to see her father visit in the recovery place. He has work for her, she vows to try but wants to see Margaret; her father assures her she will at a later date. When Bumpy informs her that the girl doesn’t know who her true mother is, Elise throws dad out. Though Malcolm tells him to persevere, while Bumpy rejects the idea of her becoming a Muslim.
Chin’s dealer who was arrested earlier in this episode of Godfather of Harlem, is the one taking his daughter out. He reassures her that he is not prejudiced and ironically takes her to see black performers. Yet when he sees her talking to a black man, he waits on the street and shoots the gentleman in the head.
On Pleasant Avenue, Chin’s headquarters, Bumpy is greeted aggressively by the former’s goons. Over espresso, they discuss their battle; both accuse each other of mistreatment. However, once more Bumpy is labelled as Zambrano’s killer – he lies to Chin, vowing to find the murderer.
Targeting the corrupt detectives as a potential connection, Bumpy asks the police captain at their precinct – who was threatened by his own men – to steal him some of the ‘evidence’ heroin. Powell calls Mayme, letting her know he’s obtained more funds for her cause – but will want a quid pro quo scenario.
Elise walks out on rehab. Then the captain throws the contraband over the wall to Bumpy’s guys. Next, Mayme denies Elise visitation to Margaret when she turns up on the doorstep. A pushy Mayme threatens her and then pays her $100 to leave. The captain has his detectives suffocated and their names put forward for crimes. Chin and his assassin think they’ve whacked Teddy – but it was another person.
