Can we please get another season of Why Women Kill? K, thanks.

Why Women Kill is likely one of the underrated shows of the season because I don’t know many people watching it. What I can say is that they’re missing out on television’s latest guilty pleasure. It feels like it’s come too fast, but we’ve arrived at the season 1 penultimate episode.

In the 1960s storyline, Beth Ann is really in over her head, but we can’t exactly blame her. Rob is a horrible husband and has been cheating on her for years, as we learn in the latest episode. But wait, it gets worse, much worse. He’s back with April, biding his time until he thinks Beth Ann will die. Little does he know, she’s not even sick.

Ultimately, Beth Ann realizes she isn’t happy with Rob and decides to finally leave him–because she has the choice to. Unlike her neighbor, who fears for her life from her abusive husband. Beth Ann arrives at Rob’s office only to learn that his secretary is one of his many sexual escapades over the years. But wait, it gets worse yet.

We finally learn about how Beth Ann and Rob’s daughter passes away, a death Beth Ann has blamed herself for. A Why Women Kill flashback takes us back to the day of, when Beth Ann and her daughter come home from somewhere. Before going inside, Beth Ann takes the garbage into the backyard and it’s presumed she closed the door behind her.

A little bit later, screams are heard from outside and it’s revealed that their daughter was hit by a car. Beth Ann assumes she didn’t close the backyard door behind her, and that is how their daughter slipped out. But nope, that is not at all what happened.

The secretary reveals she and Rob were in the house together when Beth Ann came home, so she had to rush out the backyard–and she didn’t close that door behind her. To make matters worse, Rob knew this entire time and still proceeded to make Beth Ann take the blame. What a d**k–seriously.

In the 1980s, Simone and Karl are being shunned by their local community after Naomi seeks revenge for Simone and Tommy’s relationship. Everyone finds out that Karl’s gay, and that he has been diagnosed with AIDs. This angle of Why Women Kill is a jarring reminder of the 80s and the harsh reality that came with it. I commend them for giving us a different perspective on it through their narrative.

Things take a turn for the worst when people begin vandalizing their home causing Karl to feel ill. When he begins to faint, the neighborhood just stood around and watched rather than coming to his aid. It was quite an emotional scene and broke my heart. I know it’s just television, but it is representative of a very confusing time in our history.

At the hospital, Simone runs into Naomi and begs her to stop trying to ruin their lives. Of course, she has no intentions of doing so, but unluckily for her, Tommy hears the entire conversation and kicks his mother out. I’m pretty sure that will just piss her off more, but we can’t blame him.

And this brings us to the mediocre, slightly improved 2019 storyline where Jade has lost her marbles. Eli finally learns the truth about Jade after Taylor tricks him into meeting with her. When he attempts to confront Jade, she loses it and causes a car crash. It turns out that Jade isn’t even her real name, and she’s linked to the murder of her foster parents (she burned their house down).

After the crash, Jade runs away and Eli is rushed to the hospital, where he leaves behind a note for Taylor that reads “Rehab”. Not trying to point fingers here, but this whole situation is totally Taylor’s fault–just saying.

As this episode of Why Women Kill comes to an end, we see Jade or rather Irene goes back to her ex Duke’s house to confront him for giving away the truth about her past. His punishment doesn’t exactly fit the crime as Jade/Irene stabs him to death. Yup, that happened, and the look on her face is still haunting me.

Heading into the season one finale, there will be a lot of loose ends to tie up. The final moments of this episode show Beth Ann purchasing a gun, Naomi driving towards Simone in an attempt to run her over, and of course, we have Jade/Irene. There is no inkling as to how this could all wrap up, but one thing is for sure, people will die and revenge will be sought out. Exactly how–we’ll have to wait and find out.
