Netflix orders From Scratch, a special limited series executive produced by Zoe Saldana and Reese Witherspoon.

Zoe Saldana has joined Reese Witherspoon as executive producer on the Netflix limited series From Scratch. The series is based on the best-selling memoir by Tembi Locke, From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily and Finding Home, about her marriage to her Italian husband and rebuilding her life after his devastating death. As she struggles to come to terms with her grief, she must also raise her daughter with hope and joy, as she would have with her husband.

Locke is an actor who is perhaps best known as Dr. Grace Monroe from SyFy’s Eureka. She has also made appearances on popular shows such as The Mentalist, Castle, Bones, and Sliders. Her memoir, published in April of this year, was chosen as Witherspoon’s May 2019 book club selection. Locke couldn’t be more excited to have Witherspoon and Saldana heading the series.

Witherspoon and Saldana were unrestrained in their praise for Locke’s vision and their enthusiasm for the series. The former spoke about the vision for the upcoming series and how much great the original book is:

Saldana added her own comments as well which praised the story and her excitement to work on the adaptation:

We are grateful to Netflix and thrilled to be working with Reese, Lauren, Attica and 3 Arts on this wonderful project.”"

Zoe Saldana is joined by Locke’s sister Attica as executive producer, as well as her own sisters Cisely and Muriel Saldana as co-producers. Attica is also set to serve as the showrunner for the series. Witherspoon is joined by her producing partner Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, and Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson, and Will Rowbotham will executive produce for 3 Arts Entertainment. “Between the Locke sisters and the Saldana sisters, I’ve never seen a show that’s more of a family affair,” commented Channing Dungey, VP Original Series at Netflix.

Not only a family affair but a sisterhood of sorts. With so many amazing women heading this passion project, it should be an honest and relatable representation of an amazing woman’s journey.
