Episode 7 of Netflix series Ultraman offers up some twists and turns, and also a nice fight with a giant alien. What more could you want?

Previously on Ultraman, Shinjiro/Ultraman (Josh Hutcherson) had a crisis of conscience, being against killing aliens. The question was: Could the moral high ground lead to more danger? This episode begins with Shinjiro facing a monstrously large alien. Can Shinjiro terminate him, as demanded by the earth’s defenders in the SSSP (Science Special Search-Party)? After transforming into Ultraman, Shinjiro gets batted around by the alien’s tail. A disappointed Moroboshi (Liam O’Brien) stands by to intervene, especially when the alien starts to throw vehicles around like a child throwing toys.

Ultraman is almost thrown into a mother and child in the crowd (which should have dispersed by now, honestly). However, rather than injure or kill them, Shinjiro starts flying — much to his own surprise. There is a renewed burst of confidence in Shinjiro, too, who says “Game over lizard, you are hereby terminated!”

With that, Ultraman savagely severs its head, leaving Hayata (Fred Tatasciore) and Edo (D.C. Douglas) pleased as they monitor the fight. It’s a big moment for Shinjiro, as Moroboshi was looking to act as Ultraman himself. It may win some grudging respect from Moroboshi (not that anyone should need the respect of someone like him). Also, Shinjiro better understands the need to maybe put moral objections aside when it comes to genuine self-defense.

A few twists

After this fight, Jack (Robbie Daymond) has intel on the alleged serial killer named Igaru (Michael Yurchak). It turns out he’s an Igaru prince and the last of his kind. In a weird flashback, we see him being bullied by a group over some strange object. Later it’s revealed that the murders are likely being pinned on Igaru! While this contradicts what we’ve seen up to this point, it’s an interesting changeup. So, what’s another twist for this episode?

Well, after the battle where he decapitated the giant alien, Shinjiro works up the nerve to approach pop star, Rena Sayama (Tara Jayne Sands). Believing she’s an Ultraman fan, he starts talking about the recent battles he’s won, though without revealing his identity as the masked man.

However, Shinjiro’s surprised to learn that Rena’s not a fan of Ultraman. In fact, she blames him for her mother’s death! In fact, at one of her concerts later on, Rena even mentions how her mother was killed when Ultraman fought a monster! Things get awkward, however, when it appears he may be at the show.
