The World According to Jeff Goldblum episode 4 recap, explained: Denim
The inimitable Jeff Goldblum returns for episode four of the eponymously named Disney Plus series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum. Here is Show Snob’s recap.
At the start of the latest installment of The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Jeff proclaims that on average 50 percent of the world’s population wears denim at any one time. His investigation proceeds with him also declaring himself a denim fan; western movies being our host’s first exposure.
North America’s West is where the fashion first rose to fame. On a denim safari, Brit and Jeff search for rare examples. Both men have an infectious keenness. Brit sells to collectors worldwide and makes lots of money.
Miners wore denim so the men look through an old mine. Whilst attempting to discover materials to use for Brit’s company they find no jeans, but a vintage outfit.

Next, Jeff enlightens us on denim: an African cotton plant was modified for use. France first developed it for clothes. Then an American invented copper rivets, went into business with a clothing company and formed Levi’s. Some are now considered antiques.
Rose Bowl Flea Market, Pasadena
At a huge denim market, Jeff meets legendary denimist, Kathleen Schaaf. She tells him about ‘cowboy couture’, which is nostalgic for the presenter. Within her collection are politician’s faces depicted in print on jeans. Declaring it a political statement as opposed to style, Jeff segways to crazy denim with many silly photographs.
San Francisco guru, Bart Sights, is a stylist; he shows Jeff around a Levi Strauss design center. They check out the process of creating special jeans: a leopard print is placed on a piece, incredibly, using a laser.
Indigo makes the blue used on the fabric, with layers of dye; through use, our jeans all wear different, giving individuality to all pairs. Bart informs Jeff that indigo is their life-blood and must be protected.
Waxing lyrically, Jeff believes, despite being mass-produced, each pair of jeans tells a unique story of its owner. The World According to Jeff Goldblum is a brilliant show. Ending at a country bar, the line dancers say that denim is their uniform and the one thing they have in common. A rendition of Somewhere over the rainbow sees us out. ‘Denim: an authentic identity’.
