With ‘Mythic Quest’ premiering on Apple TV+ soon, the series co-creator insists it will not harm his other projects.

According to Rob McElhenney, the upcoming Apple TV comedy, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, will not negatively impact It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  This sort of announcement shouldn’t be too surprising. While Mythic Quest is entirely new, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is fast approaching its 15th season. When that happens, It’s Always Sunny will officially become the longest-running live-action sitcom in American television history (at least in terms of seasons). Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton and other producers wouldn’t want to ruin the mood for that event.

Whereas It’s Always Sunny had modest origins over at FX, the creative team had a successful track record when pitching Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet to Apple TV+. Google’s general summary describes the new series as follows: “The team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all-time is tasked with building worlds, molding heroes and creating legends, but the most hard-fought battles don’t occur in the game — they happen in the office.”

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is set to premiere on February 7, 2020. It will star McElhenney, F. Murray Abraham, Imani Hakim, David Hornsby, Danny Pudi, Ashly Burch, Charlotte Nicdao and Jessie Ennis. It was created by Mr. McElhenney and Megan Ganz, and produced by McElhenney, Charlie Day, Michael Rotenberg, Nicholas Frenkel, Gérard Guillemot, Jason Altman, and Danielle Kreinik.

Why there may have been concerns

Other projects actually have impacted It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia in the past, at least somewhat. In season 12, Glenn Howerton’s character, Dennis, was seemingly written off the show. This coincided with Howerton’s involvement in the NBC series A.P. Bio. However, when It’s Always Sunny returned for season 13, Howerton appeared in six of the ten episodes, which allayed fans who thought Dennis, “the golden god,” was no longer on the show.

It should also be remembered that fairly early on, Danny DeVito was brought in as Frank Reynolds.  It was felt the series needed the star power to propel it into the future.  It worked, and many now regard Frank Reynolds as an iconic character, and the show simply wouldn’t be the same without him! Similarly, the character of Dee Reynolds was expanded upon, as it was decided that Kaitlin Olson’s comedic potential wasn’t explored enough in the first season. Indeed, as the series has progressed, Dee rivals the rest of the gang in terms of her nastiness.

While we don’t know how successful Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet will be, there are reasons to be optimistic. The aforementioned A.P. Bio will be returning to NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service, Peacock. This is after A.P. Bio had previously been canceled!  Apparently, Howerton and McElhenney have a knack for regaining the trust of networks.
