Power season 6, episode 13 recap: It’s All Your Fault
By Luke Lucas
Power shows us Ghost’s final day from Tommy’s point of view in “It’s All Your Fault.” Tommy confronts Ghost, the mob, and his mom. Will he survive?
Almost every scene in “It’s All Your Fault” makes you think that this is the episode where Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) is going to get killed. He doesn’t. Tommy starts the episode by blaming Ghost (Omari Hardwick) for everything that’s gone wrong from killing his father, to Lakeisha (Alani “La La” Anthony) being killed, and getting his crew cued up. But by the end of this Power episode, Tommy ends up cradling a dying Ghost in his arms.
He knows Ghost isn’t the cause of all of his troubles and he gets to have that moment of reconciliation with his brother, even if it’s brief. Plus, Tommy even sees who shot Ghost. Was Ghost telling Tommy to leave ‘it’ alone or leave ‘her’ alone? Hmm. This episode of Power was written by Theo Travers (House of Lies) and directed by Hernán Otaño (Longmire).

“It’s All Your Fault” picks up in the immediate aftermath of Benny (Domenick Lomardozzi) confronting Tommy at his front door. Benny knows that Tommy killed Proctor (Jerry Ferrara) and he wants to avenge his cousin. But, Benny learns that you should never bring a knife to a Tommy fight. Tommy gets the upper hand and kills him. Dressed as a paramedic, Tommy is able to transport the body to a scrap yard. The body and ambulance are scrapped and Tommy gets picked up by his mom, Kate (Patricia Kalember). It’s not a clean break, though. Tommy knows he just killed a hooked-up member of the Civello Crime Family. Don Carlo (Michael O’Keefe) will want blood for blood.
Cut to young Elisa Marie (Mattea Conforti), clutching the locket with an SD card in its heart that Proctor gave her as insurance before his death. She seems to be suffering from a generalized anxiety disorder, which tracks considering her dad let her mom die of an overdose and her dad was assassinated by gangsters. Her cousin Dolores (Debi Mazar) doesn’t want to say anything, but Benny is missing, too. The fronts end when Elisa Marie overhears Dolores talking to Vincent (Joe Perrino) about Benny’s whereabouts.
Elisa Marie tells Delores about the recording on the SD card. They listen to it. It’s Tommy killing Poncho (Franky G.) on behalf of Ghost. But, neither Elisa Marie or Delores recognize Tommy’s voice or know who Ghost is. But, Elissa Marie knows who might. At a coffee shop, Elisa Marie and Delores play the recording for Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.). He listens attentively to Elisa Marie’s gold-glitter dipped headphones. He tells the two that he doesn’t recognize the voice and he doesn’t know who Ghost is, either. Dolores calls him on this immediately and asks him to leave. Elisa Marie has to come to terms with the fact that Tariq may not have the friend that she thought she did.
Tariq immediately lets Tommy know that he has a problem. Tommy realizes that Ghost may not have played a role in getting his crew pinched. He gets confronted by Detective Rodriguez (Monique Gabriela Curnen). Blanca offers him a slide on Poncho’s death if he turns state’s evidence. He turns her down and assumes that it was BG (Avery Mason) who ratted him out. The only way to deal with this situation is to get that recording. Tommy decides to visit Elisa Marie. But, before he does that he has a revelation. Blanca had also given Tommy Lakeisha’s personal effects from the crime scene. When he looked at them, he was horrified to find one of Tasha’s (Naturi Naughton) earrings in the bag. Before anything else, Tommy decides to deal with Tasha.
The Almost Kills
Tommy heads right to Tasha’s and tells her that he knows she killed Lakeisha. At first, Tasha denies this, but eventually says she had no choice. She reminds Tommy that Lakeisha was not ready for the game. Tasha had the signed snitch papers as proof. But Tommy wants blood. Tasha admits defeat and turns her back so that Tommy can execute her. She tells him that if it really came down to this, she was happy that it was Tommy putting a bullet in her head. At this, Tommy lowers his gun and leaves. He just can’t kill his family.
After he kills Vincent’s weak guards, Tommy introduces himself to Elisa Marie. She claims that the recording is on her laptop, but Tommy believes there must be a hard copy. So, he kidnaps her. This infuriates Don Carlo. He blames Vincent for creating this mess and tells him to fix it. Tommy drops Elisa Marie off at his apartment and has, of all people, Kate, watch her.
Tommy goes to visit Ghost on a rooftop. He admits that it was Proctor who had gotten his crew pinched and created so much trouble for him. Ghost basically says, “Well, duh.” Before the conversation can go any further, shots are fired. Someone is trying to kill Tommy and Ghost. They both escape. Tommy kills one of the gunmen, Croop (Cedric the Entertainer).
When Tommy gets home, he finds Kate trying to braid Elisa Marie’s hair and nearly telling her who Ghost is. Tommy has to quickly stash them away when Paz (Elizabeth Rodriguez) shows up in her scene from “He Always Wins” where she crams a gun in his hands and begs him to kill the person who killed Angela (Lela Loren). She thinks it’s Ghost. Tommy just wants her to leave.
Elisa Marie and Tommy wait in his car for a tradeoff. She thinks she’s a dead girl. At first, she wants to know if Tommy is the one that killed her dad. But then, she just kind of reflects on the fact that she’s all alone. I could feel her letting go. Mattea Conforti has a lot of heavy lifting to do in this episode and she delivers. She’s this sad ball of anxiety that is expecting to die at any moment but is desperate to keep living. Elisa Marie genuinely trusts Tariq. And, she actually can. He has zero beef with her. But what she tells him can hurt her family. There’s more of that realization in her eyes than heartbreak over the way friendship works differently as you start to get older.
The Tommy Rocket
After some soul searching, Tommy decides to just drop Elisa Marie at home. He meets up with Tariq, who’s coming from the party we saw at Truth from “He Always Wins.” Tommy tells Tariq that his father has done some dirty stuff, but it’s not like he thought. He can’t kill him. Tariq is disgusted with Tommy and walks off. Tommy drives off. He’s intercepted a few blocks away by Vincent and his crew. Vincent learns to never bring automatic weapons to a Tommy fight. Tommy disarms and kills the men and then beats Vincent to death with a Glock, before shooting him once in the head for good measure.
Tommy gets the call from 2 Bit (Michael J. Ferguson) in jail that we saw in “Still DRE.” He warns Tommy that BG was not the snitch. Dre (Rotimi Akinosho) was. He’s out and might be looking to kill Ghost. Tommy rushes to save his friend, but he’s too late. When he gets there, Ghost is on the ground, dying. Tommy comforts him. The two bond and it’s clear that there’s real love between them. The events of the past season can’t be undone, but neither can the fact that Tommy and Ghost are brothers.
Tommy sees the killer, but Ghost tells him to leave the person be. Tommy can’t believe what he sees and raises his gun. But, Ghost pleads with him not to shoot. Tommy watches the shooter exit. Tommy begs Ghost to hold on for medical help, but he dies in Tommy’s arms.
On to California
Based on her reaction at the end of “He Always Wins,” we know Kate is happy with what she received in Ghost’s will. It was apparently enough money to free her of needing Tommy. She tells him that to his face when she blames him for killing Ghost. Tommy fights back but gives in. He knows he has to keep moving. Ghost left him an envelope with keys in it. They were to a garage that had a fully restored purple 1969 Mustang.
Tommy makes a stop at Elisa Marie’s. They have an honest talk about loneliness and letting go. Elisa Marie gives Tommy a flash drive with the recording. At the end of their conversation, she gives him the SD card from the locket. With all evidence destroyed, Tommy can finally leave.
As Tommy packs up his life and starts the drive to California, he gets another call from 2 Bit. He warns him that Spanky (O.S. Scroggins) is the likely new snitch. Before he leaves, Tommy pulls up on Spanky who was just walking home from a bodega run. There’s some small talk. Spanky wants to know where Tommy is going. Tommy tells him that if he told him, he would have to kill him. Tommy then says, “California” and shoots Spanky through the left eye. On the way out of New York, Tommy listens to “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg.
What did you think of “It’s All Your Fault?” Are Tariq and Tasha the most likely characters to have shot Ghost? Let’s discuss in the comments!
