Home Before Dark will be back for a second season!

Apple’s upcoming series, Home Before Dark, got some good news. Deadline reported the detective drama has received an early season 2 renewal, with the creative team already working on the storyline.

The show is based on the real-life story of Hilde Lysiak. At the age of 9, Lysiak became famous after reporting a murder in her hometown in her newspaper, Orange Street News. The article blew up online, with many people taking issue with her parents for allowing a child to see such a grisly scene. However, Lysiak defended herself and has since become an infamous reporter herself and signed a deal with scholastic.

Home Before Dark does make some changes to the story though. Brooklyn Prince takes on the lead role, as a young girl who moves from Brooklyn to her father’s small hometown. The young detective/journalist becomes devoted to solving a cold case that everyone in the town apparently has been trying to hide.

Dana Fox, one of the show’s creators, spoke a bit at the TCA’s about the upcoming series. She described it as “super bingeable” and said they wanted to make it a show that parents and children could watch. However, she did specify parents would need to watch it first to see if their kids would be able to handle it. She said:

"“I think we just felt strongly that we wanted to make something that we had never seen before, a sophisticated drama with a young female at its core. We wanted parents to watch first and see if kids can handle it. Parents will decide with their kids. The tone was the most difficult thing to nail.”"
