Episode 213 of Hulu’s Light as a Feather has Peri and Alex definitively break up (to put it lightly) and the Chrysalis curse keeps taking more lives.

Previously on Light as a Feather, Alex (Brianne Tju) learned the truth about Peri (Adriyan Rae) and it wasn’t pleasant. Also, we learned the corpse in the trunk is probably that of Justin (Cameron Johnson), Peri’s brother. This episode begins with Alex running away from Peri, while McKenna “Mack” Brady (Liana Liberato) and crew realize they looked for Alex in the wrong cabin. While outside, Mack pukes up worms, which is never a sign of perfect health. It’s also a sign that the Chrysalis curse is working its sinister magic.

Alex finds her way to a place called Maggie’s Roadhouse and calls McKenna to no avail. The bartender, Maggie (Lynette DuPree) herself, assures Alex that she’s safe. However, Peri is still actively looking for her. Meanwhile, Mack asks Violet (Haley Ramm) to kill her if need be, if they don’t find a cure for her condition and the curse. Of course, Mack should actually be saying this to Violet in from of witnesses rather than in private. After all, what if Violet were to attempt fulfilling this request later? She could easily be accused of cold-blooded murder. Basically, it’s a major oversight on Mack’s part, and she should really know better!

Anyway, Henry Richmond (Dylan Sprayberry) finally gets a cellphone signal and they receive Alex’s call. Unfortunately, Peri enters Maggie’s Roadhouse, telling Maggie that Alex is mentally disturbed in some way and that it explains her anger/paranoia. Unfortunately, Maggie sides with Peri, believing her to be a good person overall. After entering Peri’s vehicle, Alex feels forced to take drastic action and stabs her hand with a corkscrew. This is fortunately timed for a getaway as Mack, Henry and the others pull up. Alex runs into their car and they promptly leave.

Cops get involved and Mack gets sicker

They waste no time getting back to Alex’s place. Her sister, April (Alisa Allapach), does what she can to help Mack, whose symptoms are worsening. In fact, Mack’s back sprays gross slime at April! Peri is also having trouble, though of a different kind. Cops (Hans Christopher and E.R. Ruiz) pull her over. They immediately ask her about the wound on her hand. Peri says she accidentally cut herself earlier and her argument with Alex reopened her hand wound. That sounds plausible enough, but how will she explain the body they find in her car?

Light as a Feather soon offers some more truths between characters. Alex tells Violet that Peri killed her parents by messing with the furnace, and also that she rigged Violet’s shower to burn her with acid. Ouch! Alex and Violet share a hug, though, and Mack feels slightly better after April gives her a shot of medicine. Mack cryptically explains the curse’s impact on her mind, too,
saying the Chrysalis “makes bad things feel right.” Could this help explain some of Violet’s more villainous moments from season one? Probably.

Later, Henry says he doesn’t think he’ll ever forgive Violet. However, if the curse truly warps people’s behaviors, then who’s to say what one is and is not responsible for? Regarding Mack’s particular curse, Trey (Jordan Rodrigues) — who has been wishy-washy with Mack before — says “I’d take you alive and puking worms over not having you at all.” Aww!

Greater understanding of ambiguity

Light as a Feather so often highlights moral ambiguity, even if through strange circumstances. Violet now says she can’t blame Peri for what she did, knowing that she was upset about her brother’s death due to the Chrysalis curse. Nevertheless, they may breathe a light sigh of relief upon learning that Peri’s been arrested.

Of course, they’re not out of the woods yet. In fact, when Alex mentions that Peri knows about some church, it triggers yet another expansion of their adventure. Weirdly, Isaac (Brent Rivera) had been drawing a church, not long before his run-in with some angry wasps (as predicted by their game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board).

This puts them in an awkward situation: Alex has to talk to Peri in jail. When she gets there, Alex asks Peri why she was driving with Justin’s body in the car. However, Peri rocks the boat a little by asking, “Who said it was Justin?” Obviously, Peri’s character is getting a bit of an evil makeover, which is almost the inverse of Violet, who has become surprisingly more sympathetic, including even to Alex (who had literally killed her before!).

There’s a more crushing revelation, though, when Trey gets a call about Sammi (Katelyn Nacon) being dead! Sure enough, we see her being carted off into an ambulance, obviously deceased. Now Trey will likely feel guilty for being with Mack instead of with her (well, he would feel guilty about it were any of this actually real).
