In episode 203 of Netflix series Lost in Space, the Robinsons explore the Resolute, June does a “clear history” on her past and Samantha is introduced.

Previously on Lost in Space, the Robinsons dangled over a watery precipice on a strange new planet, ultimately freeing themselves and launching back into space. Also, Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) was bitten by alien kelp and blackmailed by June Harris (Parker Posey). This episode starts with Maureen Robinson (Molly Parker) after a dream within a dream where she imagined a robot attacking her son, Will (Maxwell Jenkins).

Could it be a vision of things to come? In a way, yes. The Robinsons find and dock upon the Resolute, which appears to be abandoned. While Don is resting after his awkward blood transfusion from June, June herself is back in handcuffs. Maureen assures June that, although she’ll be left behind, the authorities will be told where to find her. During her moments away, June has some flashbacks about her criminal history and how her “lifestyle” clashed with her sister, Jessica (Selma Blair).

Soon, June is out of her handcuffs and speaking again to Don. Among other things, she warns him that she ruins people for a living. While Don says he is not a threat, she chides him for holding incriminating evidence against her. Shortly after this exchange, the rest of the Robinsons explore the seemingly vacant Resolute, noticing signs of violence.

More from Show Snob

This includes a heavily (and not intentionally) glitching version of Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker” playing over the sound system. When they enter an empty dining hall, they discover that the last recording from the Resolute is a distress call. This does not bode well for the Robinsons, though it’s what we expect from Lost in Space.

Identity thief exploits cryo-sleep

In another flashback, we see that, at one point, Jessica refused to lend June any more money. She also confronted June about a dead investment banker named Jerry Vick and business cards found in June’s car. June assures Jess that it doesn’t matter because those people were all strangers.

Now, aboard the Resolute, June starts a fire to automatically open a door (as part of a mechanically built-in safety protocol). As if killing two birds with one stone, this also separates the Robinsons from each other as a form of fire containment. While they’re dealing with this, June decides to create a new identity as a therapist for the records, knowing that her prior identity as “Dr. Smith” won’t work anymore. She steals the credentials of an unknown man in cryogenic sleep.

Two discoveries: A human and a horse

As Judy Robinson (Taylor Russell) explores the Resolute, she discovers a straggler named Samantha (Nevis Unipan). She explains that people evacuated to flee “the monster.” On that note, as Don separately wanders around, he finds the hostile robot arm in a box! When the Robinsons meet Don again, Maureen and Will conclude that this robot is trying to put itself back together, much like Will’s robot (Brian Steele) did in the season 1 premiere.

Don also tells Maureen and John (Toby Stephens) that June has escaped.  Meanwhile, Judy and Sam are in the cooling vent system. While talking, Sam mentions “monsters,” rather than just one. Elsewhere, penny and Will hide after they hear something. They are rather relieved to look up and see a horse in the dining hall, as opposed to some killer robot.

Penny makes her character on Lost in Space somewhat sad, admitting she only pretended to like horses to bond with Maureen. Earlier in the season, Penny expressed disappointment that her mom didn’t read any of her book yet and also said she feels like the most useless member of the Robinson clan.

However, at least she’s not much like June, who is now deleting a file of herself being interrogated. On top of that, June deletes all surveillance footage she can find of herself. She’s not the only danger afoot, though. The horse neighs have agitated the alien robot they sense is on board. Penny calms the horse down but a falling tray stirs it up again, attracting unwanted alien robot attention!

Then, in a memorable “Lost in Space” moment, John starts shouting lyrics the “The Joker” to attract the robot away from his kids (and, of course, that darn horse). It ends up working and they safely trap the robot in a room (at least for now). Meanwhile, June sees a photograph of Samantha’s dad (Jon Cor). She recalls him as the man she launched into space to a certain death in season 1.

On the bright side, the Robinsons conclude that Will’s robot was protecting people from this other robot. Also, other survivors return to the Resolute. This includes Officer Ben Adler (JJ Feild). He reveals that Samantha’s mom (Amanda Marier) is still alive and that the other survivors are staying on a nearby planet. Perhaps the biggest reveal, though, is that he knows the robot was on the Resolute the whole time, and he’s about to show the Robinsons what he knows.
